LUX · Rosalía · Spain (2025)
Rosalía has never made things easy for herself, and this time she went further than ever. Her fourth album took almost three years to make, and most of that time went into learning to sing convincingly in thirteen different languages, from Arabic to Ukrainian to Latin, each one tied to the life of a different saint.
The result sounds nothing like her earlier work. Instead of the sharp, playful pop of Motomami, LUX leans into full orchestral drama, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and packed with choirs, opera-like vocals and unexpected collaborators like Björk and Yves Tumor. It trades viral hooks for something slower and stranger, an album built to be listened to quietly from start to finish rather than skipped through on a phone.
Rolling Stone called it “an astonishingly ambitious opus” and gave it five stars, not because it chases trends but because it deliberately ignores every one of them.
